La muraille de Philippe Auguste

Si vous ne connaissez pas un peu l'histoire de France et l'histoire de Paris, vous vous penserez certainement que la ville de Paris est vraiment moche, surtout rue du Louvre, très près du célèbre musée.
En fait il s'agit d'un morceau de l'une des tours qui faisait partie de la fameuse muraille que le roi Philippe Auguste (1165-1223) avait fait construire pour protéger Paris contre ses nombreux ennemis. A cette époque, vers 1200, Paris était bien plus petit qu'ajourd'hui. Il y a encore une cinquantaine de bouts plus ou moins visibles dans Paris, parfois dans un parking, parfois dans un sous-sol d'immeubles....

If have no idea about France history or Paris history, you would probably think that Paris is really ugly, especially in the Louvre street, close to the well-known museum.

In fact, it's a piece of a tower which was belonging to the big wall built by the king of France Philippe Auguste (1165-1223) to protect Paris against its ennemies. At this time, around the year 1200, Paris was of course much smaller than today. You can find about 50 pieces of this wall, but generally difficult to see, sometimes in a parking, some in the underground of a personal building....
