Voici un petit passage privé au nom étonnant : le passage du Saumon, dit aussi passage Ben Aiad.

En fait c'est surtout une porte étonnante à voir car le passage est privé. Il se situe dans la rue Bachaumont, quartier Montorguei - Métro Sentier.

La curieuse histoire de cet endroit figure sur le panneau ci-dessous.

This passage is in the area of Montorgueil street, Metro station Sentier. You can see it in Bachaumont street.

His name is "Salmon passage" or "Ben Aiad passage", what a curious name for a Parisian passage built between 1820 and 1828 ! In fact, it's private and we can only see this wonderful big door. At the origin it was a succession of 300 meters gallery. It was a sort of mall with many shops. And then, there was a dancing where students, shop workers and also girls were used to spend good times. In 1848, it became a theater and the meeting point of high society. And finally, the Otoman General Ben Aiad bought it because he found it was looking like Tunis bazaars. In 1899, his son Ahmed decided to destroy the passage to open the Bachaumont street.
