En 1984, un pilote américain de 27 ans, Robert Moriarty passe entre les piliers de la Tour Eiffel à bord d'un Beechcraft Bonanza. Ancien marine, il avait effectué 824 missions au Viêtnam.
Interrogé sur les raisons de son exploit, il répondit : "Just for the fun".
