Mon ami Américain Philipp me propose de publier quelques photos qu'ils a prises lors de sa visite de Paris dans la Chapelle expiatoire. C'est un monument assez curieux qui est peu connu et rarement visité. Pourtant, il a un réel intérêt historique et architectural. il se situe dans le square Louis XVI, près de la Gare Saint-Lazare (coin rue Pasquier et Boulevard Haussmann). L'architecture est très belle, de style grec. On peut y admirer notamment une belle statue de Marie-Antoinette faite par Cortot (cf photo ci-dessous)
Cet ensemble peu se visiter mais seulement 3 après-midi par semaine (voir le site). Et c'est donc dans ce lieu qu'on séjourné les dépouilles de Louis XVI et Marie-Antoinette avant d'être transférées en 1815 à la Basilique Saint-Denis au Nord de Paris, comme la plupart des autres reines et rois de France.

My American friend Philipp told me to write a post with some pictures he took from the Chapelle Expiatoire when he was in Paris. It's a rather strange building not very know and not very visited. Nevertheless, it's interesting according to its history and to its architecture. It's in the Louis XVI garden, close to Saint-Lazare train station (corner Pasquier street and Haussmann Boulevard. The architecture is in a beautiful Greek style. We can see there a beautiful statute of Marie-Antoinette done by Cortot (cf picture below).
This building can be visited only 3 times a week on the afternoon (see the website). And in this place were put the bodies of the king Louis XVI and the Queen Marie-Antoinette before they were transfered in 1815 in the Saint-Denis Basilic (in the North of Paris), where most all the queens and kings of France have their graves now.
