This beautiful tower, alone in the middle of a beautiful garden, close to Châtelet is really wonderful. It has been built between 1509 and 1523 et it's 57 meters high. Saint-Jacques' statute is dominating the building. After a long while hidden for restauration, we can now see it again, completely clean.
In a gothic blazing style, this tower was attached to the church Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie (Saint-Jacques of the butcher if we translate word to word) and the church was destroyed in 1793 during the French Revolution.
One say that the tower was not destroyed because Blaise Pascal (a well-known French author, scientist and philosopher) wanted to do some experimentations on gravity. What a happiness !
Now it's the starting point for the pilgrimage to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle in Spain.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to go inside and visit this tower due to security.
